    Well i don’t know i think its obvious that if you are celibate you are not going to contract any sexually transmitted infections so it would be a bit of an intellectual waste. how about doing a paper on the health benefits of sexual activity, like how it effects the mental health and other kinds of things. I think that would be more interesting. lets face it in todays world people are more interested in sex than celibacy

    There are NO physical advantages nor disadvantages to being completely celibate. There really is no such thing as "sexual energy", so "realeasing it" does no good and "retaining it" does no harm.

    However, there HAVE been several studies showing that married people live longer and generally see themselves happier than single people.

    There have been many studies that show frequent ejaculation (once every one to two weeks) may help prevent prostate cancer later in life. As for the idea of sexual energy, that is ancient medicine at work for ya. It was also believed that at one time that ejaculating had the same effect on your body as loosing an equal amount of blood. Were that the case, there would be teenage boys walking around lightheaded all the time!

    As for the benefits, what benefits did you observe? The only benefit that I could see might be overcoming sexual desire and having more control over your own sex drive, but controlling how often you do or don’t do something is just as difficult as not doing it at all.

    It is known that if a couple are trying to get pregnant, the guy should ejaculate frequently so that he is always producing new sperm. As the sperm being held age, they become less mobile. Ejaculation cleans out the tank, so to speak, so that fresh, fast swimming sperm are ready and waiting.

    Blood pressure and cortisol levels both are decreased in periods after sex, key indicators of stress.

    During your celibacy, what did you resort to for coping with stress? Did you already have positive coping mechanisms for dealing with daily stress? Sex (safe sex, committed relationship, blah blah yada yada) is a method of dealing with stress, but there are others as well. Perhaps the lack of sexual release allows people to focus more on other positive ways of dealing with stress, and the percieved benefits are coming not from lack of sex but from increased positive lifestyle habits. I get the same things you described when I have the time to go out running every day. But, not only do I get the benefits of running, I get to have sex as well!

    EDIT: These are my final thoughts on the subject. The reason you are having difficulty finding the information you seek is that it probably hasn’t been studied, becuase no one has seen evidence that there would be a benefit from studying it. We’ve confirmed that neither sex nor celibacy are necessary to manage stress and health. Aside from the benefits the celibacy may give, however, celibacy goes against instinct. In animals, sex drive often supercedes even hunger and safety. While we can overcome this need, if the potential benefits of celibacy aren’t deemed great enough to warrant it, nobody will pay for the research.

    I see a great place, however, for you to do your own personal study and submit it to a university or medical journal. You could possibly even get published! If you decide to go celibate again, meticulously record EVERYTHING daily – mood, vitals, health, anything out of the ordinary, etc. Then after a month or more organize your data, look it over, draw some conclusions, and go research a likely place to get it published.

    I would also like to add that this has been a very interesting and fun question to be part of.
