I’d put "laid off." Expect to be required to produce a copy of your DD214 for the unemployment office.

leaving the military or any job voluntarily is a grounds for disqualification for unemployment benefits, because you caused your job loss, not the employer or the economy. It is always best to tell the truth, because if you lie to obtain benefits, not only will they get the money back, you will also be subject to criminal prosecution for fraud.

Voluntary quit would be the honest way to file, would it not? If they ask you any questions, just be honest! Six years of serving your country is VERY honorable, if I were in your shoes I might sue if they tried to reduce benefits…

Someone in the military structure should be able to give you advice about your eligibility. Otherwise, explain it to someone in the employment office and ask them how to respond to the question.

I would put reduced hours. Hours were reduced – to zero. They will know what to do, they’ve seen this situation before.
